The GIS Technician (Part-Time) assists with developing the digital database and installation of hardware and software systems. Performs responsible technical work in the implementation and maintenance of the geographic information systems (GIS) databases and linkages to various databases. Conducts geospatial and statistical analysis of spatial data. Produces maps expressing the results of the analytical processes using ESRI mapping products. Duties include reading and interpreting source documents such as civil engineering plans, plot maps, and legal descriptions, and entering required data into the GIS. Work involves creating and maintaining database files, inputting non-geographic data and responding to inquiries regarding the GIS system. Assists with the needs of internal and external customers and responds to requests for digital data. Assignments are made by the Logistics & Asset Management Coordinator or other supervisors with general review of finished work. Reports to the Logistics & Asset Management Coordinator.Must be working towards a bachelor s degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field, and have familiarity with editing data in ESRI ArcGIS applications and GPS data collection. Must have experience and/or class work with geoprocessing and data analysis using ESRI s ArcGIS applications. Good analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills required. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver s License.

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate personal computer, related office equipment, and motor vehicle. Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
